The Florida Future Educators of America (FFEA) High School Program is sponsored by the Florida Department of Education, Division of Human Resource Development, Office of Teacher Recruitment and Retention.

Since 1986, the Florida Department of Education has provided assistance to schools in starting and maintaining chapters of Florida Future Educators of America (FFEA), pre-collegiate and collegiate teacher recruitment programs. The program provides a forum for students to become aware of career opportunities in education and nurtures their interest in teaching as a career. The program also provides an avenue for collegiate members to stay informed of the latest issues and advancements in the education profession. The program is administered through local school chapters at all grade levels - elementary through postsecondary. A teacher or faculty advisor is required to provide the leadership for each chapter.

Each year, the Department coordinates state conferences for postsecondary chapters and senior high student members and their advisors. The 2008 FFEA Conference will be held at the Florida Hotel and Conference Center at the Florida Mall - January 25-27. Go to: http://www.fldoe.org/profdev/ffea.asp for more information.

FFEA is a long-range recruitment program that has proven to be beneficial in attractive outstanding students into education, boosting faculty morale, improving the image of teaching , and strengthening the cooperation between teachers, students, parents and the community.

For students...
FEA helps to explore teaching as a career option, providing a realistic understanding of teaching, and encourages students from diverse backgrounds to think seriously about the teaching profession.

For schools...
FEA is a service opportunity that elevates the role of teachers and offers new avenues of communication about education and its place in the community.

For communities...
FEA provides a chance for communities to "grow their own" future teachers and raises the status of the education profession in the eyes of their citizens.
